Caregiver Medfield MA
Blood cancer, also known as leukemia, is a serious disease that doctors and scientists are continuing to discover more and more about. Because of research and the dedicated researchers who perform it, there now exist better treatments and therapies that are more effective than ones that existed in the past. Even though many great advancements have been made in treating blood cancer, it is still a life-threatening disease that continues to claim many lives each year. If you are a caregiver for a loved one fighting blood cancer, you know how scary a diagnosis it can be and how difficult it can be to manage this disease. September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, a monthly observance designed to shed more light on this still very confusing illness and to bring attention to the struggles of blood cancer sufferers, survivors, and their caregivers. If you are a caregiver for a loved one with blood cancer, there are many ways you can get involved during the month of September. Even if you do not have a loved one with blood cancer, there are still several ways you can help out this month and support the cause. Here are just a few of them:
- Write to a Lawmaker
Great advancements cannot be made for blood cancer treatments and research without adequate funding, and much of that funding comes from the government. Show your support for more government funding for cancer research by writing your representative and telling them how important funding for cancer research is to your family, your community, your state, and your nation.
- Walk
One way to help raise money and raise awareness for blood cancer is by participating in a walk such as the Light the Night Walk which was founded by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. These walks are held all across the country and there just may be one taking place in your city or town. Getting involved in a walk either by walking or working as a volunteer is a great way to show your support for blood cancer patients and come together as a community for a great cause.
- Caring for a Loved One
If you have a loved one with blood cancer, there are many ways you can help your loved one to manage their condition and to have better quality of life. Help them to follow through with treatment plans and follow the advice of their doctor. Make sure to make time for experiences they find enjoyable such as listening to a book read aloud, being with a pet, or having pleasant conversation.
