Get a Picture of What You Do for Your Senior

If you’re like most caregivers, you do an awful lot without realizing everything that you do. It’s time to get a more accurate picture of what exactly you do. Start writing down a list and add to it every time you think of something. You might need to take a couple of days to compile a full list.

Determine Who You Have Access to for Help

You might have quite a few friends and family members you can ask for help. If that’s the case, rejoice in that fact and start matching people up with tasks that they can take on for you. But even if you don’t, that’s okay. You may be able to delegate a few tasks here and there, and that’s got to be fine for right now.

Hire Homecare Providers

You do still need help, though, and homecare providers are among the best options available for that. They’re experienced at helping family caregivers handle all sorts of situations and they can help you, too. You may even be able to learn how to streamline some of the tasks that you’ve been handling.

Look for Other Resources for Help

You may be able to find other resources for help, too. Agencies that work with the elderly in your area can offer a variety of different types of assistance, but you need to know what’s available out there. Finding these resources can be as simple as calling your local health department and asking who you can contact.

Remember that it’s Okay to Need Extra Help

If you’re feeling guilty about needing help and that you’re still trying to work while caring for your aging adult, remember that guilt isn’t necessary. It’s okay to need and to accept extra help. You have your own life to lead and you still want to be able to help your senior. It’s as simple as that and there’s no reason for you to try to force yourself into one option or the other.

It’s also a good idea to talk to your employer. More and more employers have options in place to help their employees to cope with caregiving duties. The sooner you ask the sooner you can start finding the exactly help you need.
